They say your morning routine sets the tone for your whole day. After years of trial and error (and motherhood chaos), I’ve found a mindfulness rhythm that helps me feel grounded, energised, and ready to create with intention. It’s not perfect, and some days I miss step. But the beauty is in showing up, not being perfect.
If you’re looking to bring more presence, productivity, and gratitude into your day, steal this morning routine and make it your own.
1. Start with Morning Water (Cucumber over Lemon for Me!)

For over 10 years, I started my day with warm lemon water. A healthy habit I adopted from my parents. But recently, I developed a histamine intolerance and had to swap it out. Now, it’s morning cucumber water—and honestly, my body thanks me for it.
Why it’s good for you:
- Hydrates and flushes your system first thing, whether lemon or cucumber.
- Cucumber is cooling and gentle on the gut.
- Lemon helps boost your immune system with extra vitamin C.
- Both help wake up your digestion naturally.
- Supports clear skin and clarity of mind.
The real lesson? Always listen to your body. It knows before you do.
2. 20–30 Minutes of Morning Movement (Or 5, If That’s All You Get)

Let’s be real, my son usually senses the moment I’m out of bed before I start my morning routine. So my yoga flow often becomes a speedy race. But I still try to move, even if just for a few minutes.
If you do have time, sun salutations are magic for waking up the spine and balancing your energy. If not, a quick stretch is better than nothing.
Ideas for quick morning movement:
- Sun Salutation x3
- Hip openers in bed if desperate
- Forward fold with deep breaths either seated or standing
- Neck rolls, ankle rolls, wrist rolls, shoulder rolls, hip rolls.
- Up dog and down dog combo.
- Just touching you toes is good enough- and swop: right hand left foot then left hand right foot. Inhale up and exhale down.
3. Go for a Walk (Even Just Around the Block)

Get your body moving with a walk. This doesn’t have to be a mindful walk, just get your energy flowing and your mind free from unwanted emotions.
I find morning walks help me:
- Shake off grogginess
- Get my steps in before the chaos begins
- Avoid flaking on workouts later in the day
- Feel more mentally clear before diving into work
If your schedule allows, try to exercise in the morning. It sets the tone and frees up your mind for the rest of the day.
4. Light Incense & Give Thanks

Here’s where the magic drops in.
Before diving into your to-do list, light some incense, take a breath, and give thanks. Not in a rush, not because you have to. But rather because it’s taken you so long to get where you are. And for that you should be not only proud but also grateful.
Gratitude is the key to positive energy flow. Sometimes we take what we have for granted. Trust me, I know.
If you struggle to find things to be thankful for. Use this as an example:
- Your breath
- Your home, where you live and the roof over your head
- Your work and creativity
- Your ability to make money
- Your body and your physical health
- Your psychological, emotional and mental wellness
- Your mindset and willingness to grow, change and adapt to the world
- The animals, plants, trees and fresh air
After that, you can set an intention for the day, if you want. Optional but not as necessary. It doesn’t have to be long or deep. Just a couple words is enough: Clarity. Patience. Flow.
Final Thoughts: It’s Not About Perfection it’s about Consistency; A Ritual or Routine.
This isn’t a strict checklist—it’s an invitation to create consistency that supports your energy and mindset. Whether you work a 9-5, run your own business, or parent full-time, these simple shifts can help you feel more mindful, grounded, and productive.
Are you ready to try it?
Start small. Start slow. But just start.
